Mr. Jamie Dimon, current CEO of JPMorgan, shared many of his insights in the below CNBC video including apprenticeships. We are highlighting the video start time at the point where he specifically details the concept being launched. Regardless of the details, we affirm the concept of young adults (i.e. ‘teenagers‘) working to learn and learning to work as part of their education, especially being paid.
Work: How To Find a Job?
Dave Ramsey shares in both of the above videos from 2015 and 2018 radio video broadcast on some ways to find jobs. Fears, pressures, hopelessness, financial strains, market and economy craziness, and so on can drive anyone of us insane, sad, and depressed. Finding wisdom, more so from the 'fear of the Lord' (c.f. Proverbs 1:7), is better than finding a job but helps in finding a job.
Using Money Rightly, Wisely, and Generously
Dr. Darrell Bock interviews Brian Rosner about money and God's direction and counsel in using money rightly, wisely, and generously through Dallas Theological Seminary's The Table podcast in April 2017 entitled "Money, Greed, and Generosity." When truth drives and love characterizes us, we know God is at work from the heart out aiming our life for his purposes and uses to love him and others. Here are some of the questions posed during the interview with helpful details and further questions and answers:
- Does God talk about money in the Bible?
- is money evil?
- How much money should I earn?
- What do I do with my lifestyle?
- Is earning high profits in business bad?
- Are there any Bible passages in the New Testament about "tithing"?
- Is tithing a law or of the heart?
- Is 10% ('tithe') too high or maybe it is too low for some?
- Should I give to international mission work like "missionaries"?
- Should I give to others beyond the local church like a college or seminary?
Jobs, Vocation, and Purpose
Dr. Darrell Bock's interview of Steve Garber via Dallas Theological Seminary's Table Podcast gives profound clarity and connection between Christianity and work life. Steve provides helpful perspective and biblical depth that defines and shows the relationship of vocation, jobs, and economy to faith and life. The interview includes talking through sacred versus secular mindsets and even common grace versus saving grace. They provide practical examples such as H.E.B Grocery Store in Texas among others to help shape our mindset from a heart to love God and love others through the mundane. In this, Christianity becomes a people "set apart" from the world but entirely engaging to the world, especially in economy and vocation.
Economics, Love, and Telos
We want to see more business owners, entrepreneurs, and working people to be inspired by truth and love. The below video lays a foundation for truth and guide for love in economics. You will here the word 'teleological' which refers to telos. This reinforces telos center, what centers our heart aims our life, and when the gospel centers our heart, God aims us to love him and others - including economics.
This is a great resource referencing Dallas Theological Seminary's Table Podcast where Dr. Darrel Bock interviews Greg Forster. Part 1 is Challenges to the Faith and Work Movement and part 2 is 12 Principles of Economic Wisdom.
Greg encourages and establishes that work is an extension of love to God and others, contributing value to society and people.
